A message from the director
In 2013, I was blessed with a baby boy. Like most new parents, I suddenly began paying attention to things I didn’t necessarily think were important before. What exactly are the ingredients in the food we’ll feed our son? Are these car seats really safe? Has there always been a lack of sidewalks on some city streets?
I also began to research the public and private school systems in Toronto. In my exploration, I discovered two things:
1 – the Montessori curriculum is thorough, expansive, and truly provides children with the knowledge, discipline, and thinking tools to ensure ongoing success in their education and careers.
2 – Holistic educational facilities are sparse in the GTA.
And just like that, the idea to start the Vedic Roots Montessori Academy was born. I wanted to combine the Montessori curriculum with the holistic attention provided in bhakti, which is the philosophy of the Vedas (ancient texts originating in India). As a bhakti practitioner myself, I knew this would be a winning combination. In September of 2015 our idea became a reality when we opened our first location at Yonge and Sheppard. I now felt confident that my son could attend a preschool where all of his needs would be met – cognitive, social, emotional, and physical.
VRMA intentionally addresses each of these needs by complimenting the Montessori curriculum with such activities as yoga and meditation, and courses in additional languages like French and Sanskrit. We offer students meals that are 60% organic and GMO free, and we are well on our way to becoming the first school in North America to serve only Ayurvedic meals, which also promote physical and mental well-being.
While we are still early in our journey, the community response has been fantastic, and we have plans for rapid expansion throughout the GTA. We feel all the stakeholders at VRMA are partners, including the parents. I hope you’ll feel inspired to be a part of this incredible journey, and become a parent partner. Regardless of your race, faith, nationality, gender or ethnicity, you are welcome here.

Director, Vedic Roots Montessori Academy
To become a leading Montessori school providing academic excellence with a spiritual foundation, upon which students can be rooted as they grow into happy, successful citizens of the world.
Montessori is an individualized approach to education for children that helps each child reach full potential in all areas of life. It is a student-centered approach that encourages creativity and curiosity and leads children to ask questions, explore, investigate and think for themselves as they acquire skills. Our prepared Montessori learning environment and trained teachers, assist the students to develop creativity and confidence, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and a positive, collaborative attitude — all key attributes that stay with them throughout their education and life.
Research indicates that a positive early childhood experience is linked to lifelong mental and emotional well-being. We believe that a holistic education can significantly contribute to a positive childhood experience. A holistic education is one that addresses the mind, body and soul. It can provide students with tools to make good decisions and cope with life’s inevitable reversals in a healthy, productive manner. As such, in addition to the five Montessori areas of learning, our students are exposed to:
Extra languages (E.g., French, Sanskrit)
VRMA provides nourishing and balanced meals that promote the physical, emotional and intellectual well-being of our students in accordance with the ancient science of Ayurveda. Our meals are 60% organic and GMO-free, and we are on our way to becoming North America’s first school to serve fully Ayurvedic meals.
Real education runs in the parallel lines of wisdom, both devotional and practical, coming together to provide the child ultimate happiness
The staff are of high moral character, very kind, empathetic, and professional at the same time. Also, their personal spiritual practices and principles make them great role models. My son has shown rapid progress in his language and comprehension skills. I am very glad I chose VRMA for my son. Plus, the fact that the school provides a sublime Krishna conscious environment is a true blessing in this day and age.
